Looking at the qualitative structure, about 40% of the world's production is from
the category of technical cladding and industrial wood cladding. However, the
importance of non
-
wood products, including edible mushrooms from forests,
will be greater in the
future, bearing in mind the constant growth of the
population, the development of modern technologies, market harmonization,
greater interest in alternative medicine, the growth of standards, etc. Meeting
the growing needs will be provided to a significan
t extent from artificial
production. Various types of edible mushrooms occur in the Republic of Srpska,
and these are forest products that, according to their potential and sustainable
use, can be found on the domestic and international market. Activities
on the
collection of these products and their processing are unsatisfactory and take
place spontaneously. The potential of edible mushrooms and the market needs
for them are great, which can be seen in the plans of development agencies in
various parts of
the world. Interest in mushroom
-
based pharmaceuticals is
increasing, as evidenced by the EU's plan to enter the pharmaceutical industry
by 2025. There are a number of questions regarding the collection and
processing of edible mushrooms, such as market
development, organization of
collection, legal regulations, etc. The share of revenues generated by the sale of
non
-
wood forest products varies between countries, and by regions within a
country. Credible data on the origin and quantity of collected mushr
ooms and
their distribution are often unavailable and unreliable. In the structure of
companies that deal with the processing of non
-
wood forest products, including
mushrooms, small family businesses are the most represented. With the
development of such c
ompanies, the standard of living of the rural population
increases and makes better use of the available potentials.
