The paper gives motivation for considering a 3D cadastre based on the registration of 3D spatial units, i.e. the (bounded) amount of space to which a person is entitled by means of real right. This approach gives a better insight into the registration of rights and restrictions. In 2012 the international standard ISO 19152 Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) was approved. The LADM is a conceptual model, its purpose is not to replace the existing systems, but rather to provide a formal language for describing them, so that their similarities and differences can be better understood and it also offers the concepts for the modelling of 3D spatial units. Based on the LADM, country profiles can then be defined and extended. The paper further explores the technical aspects of a 3D cadastre, especially summarizing the main findings and challenges in 3D information modelling and 3D spatial databases for a 3D cadastre.Downloads
