Effects of Mobbing on Mental Health
Abstract
In this paper we tried to summarize the results of some of the best known researches done in Europe, and the
goal of which was to investigate the consequences of mobbing for individuals and their health. The research results show
that those consequences are negative and accompanied by diff erent psycho - physical problems, in most of the cases
those include: loss of will and satisfaction at work, loss of self-respect, sleep problems, increased anxiety, concentration
problems, chronic fatigue, anger, depressivity and diff erent somatic problems. The results of the only available research
conducted in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the sample of physicians from public medical institutions,
suggest that 76% of the subjects reported the presence of mobbing in their working environment, whereas 26% of them
were exposed to persistent mobbing at work. Data have also been obtained during the research confi rming the existence
of negative consequences of harassment at work for subjects’ mental health.
The conclusion of this paper is that mobbing and harassment at work leave serious consequences on victim’s health condition,
which primarily depends on the frequency, intensity and duration of mobbing.
