Special method of forensic expertize in veterinary medicine: Identification of Animal Hair

Abstract

Analysis of animal hair as a part of special methods of veterinary expertise is often used for the purpose to identify the species and breed of animal. Depending on the species, animal hair usually show characteristic color, shape, length and other characteristics which sometimes make it possible to assume a particular animal species even during the macroscopic examination of the hair sample. The final precise determination and identification of animal species based on hair, however, is performed with more precise analyzes that include analysis of its microscopic structural characteristics, which show some differences within different species.
Since the analysis of hair can make major contributions to clarify many crimes, in this paper authors shortly describe the method of hair analysis as the procedure for identification of animal species and breed.
