Education of the Public the Way to Sustainable Development

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to point out the need to educate the public, so that it could, by its deliberate action, contribute to the sustainable development. The public, an unavoidable subject of sustainable development can be defined as a totality of the informed and knowledgeable people who form general opinion-public opinion. The public cannot be chosen or changed, and therefore other subjects of sustainable development have a accept it as it is and co-operate with it.
Starting from the present state and the need for establishing a two-way communication and relationship with the public, we notice that its capability to judge a proposal, to make its demands and to participate in decision making, depends on the level of knowledge about what is possible and permissible.
