Inaccuracy of Traffic Signs as a Cause of Occurrence of Dangerous Situation

Abstract

In order to provide safe functioning of traffi c, it is necessary that all four elements (driver, vehicle, road and
environment) meet certain «conditions». Statistical data indicates that 3% of the causes of occurrence of traffi c accidents
is the road, while in developed countries, such as Sweden, road is the cause in 36% of traffi c accidents. Of the total number
of traffi c accidents that occur as a fault of road, a signifi cant number of accidents are traffi c accidents that are caused by
the lack of and/or improperly placed traffi c signs. Unclear messages or absence of messages (appropriate traffi c signs) can
cause traffi c participants misleading, or create a dangerous situation. In order to provide safe functioning of traffi c, it is
essential to adjust, properly design, set and maintain traffi c signs on the road network. Analysis of traffi c accidents, which
occur as the fault of traffi c signs, aff ect the judgment or the decision of the Court.
