Abstract

Obligatory TORCH (Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella virus, Citomegalovirus, Herpes simplex virus) testing is provided to every pregnant woman in developed countries. This test is measuring serums level of IgM antibody (sign of acute infection) and protective IgG antibody. There is no such obligatory testing in Republic of Srpska, although is the only method for early detection and prevention of TORCH infection. Our aim was to determine seroprevalence of Rubella virus, Citomegalovirus i Herpes simplex virus in pregnant women, their vaccinal status and fequence of complications in previuos pregnancies.
Sera were collected from pregnant women during their antenatal visit to outpatients departments of gynecology in general hospitals in Doboj, Prijedor and Banja Luka. All pregnant women answer. Sera were frozen and testing was preformed using Elysis Duo (Human, Germany), fully automated ELISA analyzer. Statistical analysis was realized using the SPSS software package, along with the level of statistical significance of 5% (α=0.05).
During six-month period (January 2008 to July 2008) 641 pregnant women were examined. Blood samples were obtained from 320, 217 and 158 women in the first, second and third trimesters of gestation, respectively. The IgG seroprevalence was 62.61 % for Rubella virus, 84.87% for CMV and 84.40% for HSV. The IgM seroprevalence was 0.16% for Rubella virus, 1.40% for CMV and 6.24% for HSV.
The IgG seroprevalence for Rubella virus is not satisfactory, because of unregular vaccination during the civil war. Seroprevalences for Citomegalovirus and Herpes simplex virus are satifactory, as for seroprevalence in developed countries.
