This paper deals with Serbian verbal prefixes do-, za-, iz- and their English equivalents. The paper starts with the assumption that the most examples will be with prefix iz- since it is one of the most common verbal prefixes and very productive, and that there will be more examples with metaphorical than with the basic meaning, as well as that it is expected that the verbs will be translated into English as verbs, phrases or descriptively. The aim of this research is to use the methods of analysis and comparison in order to establish the correlation between verbal prefixes in both languages. The results show that most of the analyzed verbs are with prefix za-,that each verbal prefix has more metaphorical than basic meaning, and that the translations are diverse.
