Aim is to determine calcium and vitamin D intakes in adult women from East Sarajevo. We conducted an observational study in the period between April to June 2016. using questionnaire, to estimate vitamin D and calcium intake in adult women, between 40 and 70 years old. We found low use of multivitamin-mineral supplements, as well as calcium and vitamin D supplements in this population. Women older then 50 years, and women with osteoporosis and osteopenia, more often use dietary supplements as sources of calcium and vitamin D. However, average intake of calcium and vitamin D from food and supplements was lower in comparison to recommended dietary intake for specific age group. Inadequate calcium and vitamin D intake is common among women in East Sarajevo. Further initiatives, including improved patient education, lifestyle and nutrition changes and supplementation, are needed to promote adequate calcium and vitamin D intake in women.
