The control group was made of 40 respondents from general population without the diagnosis of psychiatric disorder. Used instruments: Bezinović's scale of self-concept, PAR-Q Questionnaire of parental acceptance/rejection. The results have shown that alcoholics have significantly higher level of perceived personal incompetence, loneliness, fear of negative evaluation of their environment and external orientation, and lower level of self-respect and general satisfaction compared to the group of nonclinical population. In addition, the group of alcoholics has significantly higher level of perceived Index of mother rejection and perceived Index of father rejection. Positive correlation of the perception of personal incompetence of alcoholics with the Index of mother acceptance/rejection was determined. It was shown that experiences in the family and parental acceptance/rejection influence alcoholics self-understanding.
