SOME INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT IN RURAL ENVIRONMENT

Abstract

A system that would collect and efficiently treat household wastewater has not yet been built satisfactorily in the most rural parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its entities. In this situation, in order to protect human health, special/ alternative solutions are found - facilities (septic tanks) that should meet certain minimum requirements defined by European standards, laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, entities, cantons and municipalities. One of the most important requirements is certainly the health-sanitary requirement which excludes the possibility that sanitary-fecal waste from the household pollutes the air, soil and water, so the construction of septic tanks was resorted to as one of the solutions.
