Abstract

Efficient border management and their real security are an important factor in the process of joining Serbia to the European Union. The concept of integrated border management is a generally accepted model for EU border management, which, based on the joint work of border services, implies a fast and smooth flow of people, goods and capital while simultaneously preventing and detecting illegal migration and other forms of cross-border crime. This concept was accepted and applied by the Republic of Serbia, and since 2006 it has been strategically based on the four adopted Strategies of Integrated Border Management. The stated strategies recognize the basic entities of the state border security of the Republic of Serbia (border services), the Border Police Administration, the Customs Administration, the Border Veterinary Inspection and the Border Phytosanitary Inspection, whose responsibilities and organization will be discussed in more detail in this paper.
