Degradation of forest ecosystems, together with climate change, is one of the most significant problems today. Recent estimates indicate that more than 2 billion hectares of forests in the world have been degraded, with the expected trend of their further degradation due to increased pressures on forest ecosystems. Reclamation of degraded forests is based on the basic principles of theory and practice of silviculture, is a very complex process and require a specific silvicultural approach that involves the application of complicated and often financially demanding methods in order to achieve satisfactory results. The great importance of reclamation of degraded forests is reflected in their potential for ensuring the sustainability of forest ecosystems, preserving and increasing biodiversity, improving the functions of forest ecosystems, as well as mitigating global climate change. Consequently, adaptive management and reclamation of degraded forests are key strategies aimed at increasing the functionality and stability of forests under the multiple pressures of global change
