Abstract

This study examines whether globalization has contributed to increasing inequality
within countries, despite reducing inequality between countries, and whether
the rise in economic inequality can be linked to differences in the distribution of
labor income and capital income. The research findings indicate that between 1990
and 2022, inequality within countries increased, while inequality between countries
decreased. Furthermore, the data suggest that the rise in economic inequality can
be associated with disparities in the distribution of labor and capital income, as returns
on capital were significantly higher than the growth of real wages during the
analyzed period. The conclusions presented at the end of this study provide an interesting
starting point for future analyses, particularly given that the research included
an examination of trends at both the global level and in Europe and Asia, along with
a review of selected countries, based on data from the World Bank and the World
Inequality Database.
