Abstract

Making gravel pylons is one of the methods of improving soil characteristics i.e. increasing soil density. It can easily be used to avoid expensive replacement of materials, especially when it comes to large ‐ volume facilities. Gravel pylons reduce the risk of liquefaction, which is very important for seismic areas such as Banja Luka. It is necessary to create a design model that will be used to define the amount of material (gravel) for improvement, following the parameters of natural and improved soil (from SPT test). That amount of gravel will be incorporated by compaction techniques in the form of pylons of certain dimensions and distances. This is shown in this paper.
